When you do not need a theory test

You must pass a theory test before taking a driving test to upgrade your license. An automatic car license can be upgraded to a manual car license. From category A1 (small motorcycles) to category A2 if you've been licensed for two years. Category C1 (medium vehicles), to category C if you passed a car driving test.

A minibus must tow a trailer. You do NOT need to take a theory exam before booking a minibus.

When you do not need a theory test

You must usually pass your theory test before booking a tractor test. You don't need a theory test to get a lorry or trailer test. You don't have to take a bus and trailer test if you've already got a bus license.

A lorry driver needs a medium lorry licence, while a minibus driver needs a minibus licence.

The pass mark for the car test is 86% (43/50). You must get at least 43 correct answers to pass this part of your test. You also need a perfect score on the hazard perception test (44/75) to pass the whole test.
