Car

There are two parking options nearby. Both charge £2.60 per hour and £2.00 per hour respectively. Parking is free during office hours (8am - 5pm). Parking is also free after 5pm.

Bus

The station is situated on Ley street, approximately a 3 minute walking distance, being 0.2miles from the test centre.

Train

The train station is about 0.4 miles from Cranbrook Road. A 7 minute walk takes you there. The test center is next to a Subway restaurant.

Before you start

You must have lived in England for at least 185 days during the previous year before taking your theory or driving test,  For car and motorcycle tests, you need to pass both parts of the test within the same time period.

When you do not need a theory test

You must pass a theory test before booking a driving test to upgrade your license. An automatic car license to a manual car license. From category A1 (small motorcycles) to category A2 if you've had the license for at least two years. From category C1 (medium vehicle) to category C if you passed a car driving test.

A minibus or bus can tow a trailer. You don't need to take a theory exam before booking a minibus or bus.

What is the theory test pass mark?

The pass mark for the car test is 86% (43/50). You must get at least 43 correct answers to pass the multiple-choice section. You must also pass the hazard perception test (44/75) to pass the overall test.

Can I take my theory test online?

What is the waiting time for a theory test?

Waiting times vary between theory test centres. You should be prepared to wait up to two hours before you get an appointment.

Parking is available nearby. There are many parking options near the test centre. The closest to the centre is Lynton House Car Park (IG1 1 NJ) which costs £2.60 per hour. If you're a bargain hunter, there's also Ilford Retail Park Car Park (IG1 2JG) which is only 6 minutes away and charges nothing for two hours of parking.

Pass Rates by Year

Ilford theory test centre has a low pass rate. This doesn't mean that people who took the test there did badly. It means that the test was poorly designed. The format and timing were the same regardless of where you took the test.

RESCHEDULING OR CANCELLING THE THEORY TEST

You may reschedule your theory test for another day and time, or you may cancel the test to get a full refund. Please give us at least 3 days notice before canceling.

AFTER YOU HAVE BOOKED YOUR TEST

After paying the theory test booking fee, the DVSA will email you confirmation of your booking. You should print out this email to show to the centre when you arrive.

ATTENDING THE THEORY TEST

You must show the staff your driving licence photocard, and if you have the old style, you must take along a valid passport. If your driving licence is expired, then you must get a new one.

You need to bring your license or driving permit when taking the theory test. If you lose your license, contact the DVLA. If you lose your driving permit, contact the DVLA for a replacement.

CANCELLING AND RESCHEDULING THE THEORY TEST

You need to give at least 3 days' notice before taking an exam. Cancelling exams without giving enough notice may result in losing your money.

AFTER YOU HAVE BOOKED YOUR TEST

Ensure you provide the correct email address while making your booking as the DVS will send you an e mail once you have completed the Theory Test Booking. In case you can't find it, check your Junk Folder. The E Mail will confirm the test booking Time, Date, Address and provide you with a Reference Number. Although not essential to Take to the Theory Test Centre, it's advisable to Print this E Mail to Show to the Centre Staff if any Problems Arise.

ATTENDING THE THEORY TEST

Allow yourself plenty of time to get to Ilford Theory Testing Centre. All theory testing centres operate strict allocated test time for each candidate. Arrival late may see you unable take the test and you'll lose the booking fee. You need to bring your provisional driving licence photo card with you to Ilfords Theory Test Centre on the date of your test.
