This is the only DVLA compliant testing facility in the Edinburgh area for car, motorcycle, HGV & LGV theory tests. This is the venue you will need to attend, and they will ensure you are adequately tested an provide you with an official result that you will need in order to continue your driving experience.

The venue does not have direct dial telephone number, so it is important that you familiarise yourself with the location and deal with any queries well in advance of your test. Directions

The test centre is on the ground floor of Cairncross House.

For candidates who are being driven to the test centre, the nearest car park is the multi-story Omni park which will cost £6.00 for two hours. It is about 0.2 miles away from the test centre and will just take 5 minutes to walk in.

Bus passengers should get off at the bus station on Elder St, which is 0.4 miles away from the test centre and will take 8 minutes to walk in.

The nearest train station is Edinburgh Waverley train station, which is on Princes Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1BB and is approximately 0.6 miles away from the test centre which will take 12 minutes to walk in.

Booking Your Driving Theory Test

When you are ready to take your theory test, we can arrange the booking on your behalf. It is easier if we act as your main point of contact with the DVLA as they have lots of policies and procedures to navigate and things can get complicated.
We are very confident that you'll be able to pass your theory test on the first attempt with no problems, however, should the worst happen, and you do fail we offer a free rebooking service to get you back on track as fast as possible.

About the Driving Theory Test

A driving theory test is designed to ensure that you can demonstrate a good knowledge of the roads and how we use them. In order to take your practical driving test, you must first pass this theory element in order to move on.

The test is divided into two parts and is taken on computer. The first part is a multiple-choice quiz and then you will see a hazard simulation where you must correctly identify any houses on the road and react to them accordingly.

Taking the Test

It is important that you arrive for your test approximately 15 minutes early, as candidates who arrived late can and will be disqualified and failed. DVLA are very strict with this decision and is not something that we can appear on your behalf.

On arrival, you will be asked to leave all of your personal belongings in a secure storage locker and you should ensure that you do so. You may not take anything into the test centre with you including mobile phones and pieces of paper as this can be construed as cheating and again you will be failed and removed from the exam.

After the Test

Once the test is complete, you will be able to access your results immediately. You will be given a piece of paper which will show you whether you have passed or failed and include details of how well you performed during each part of the test which is useful information should you have to retake.
