Waiting times at DVSA Theory Test Centres vary depending on what day you go. You should check before going to make sure there isn't an issue.

Extending theory test centre opening hours

We're extending the opening hours at most Theory Test Centres in England and Wales. Typically, centres will now be open earlier and close late in the evening. For example, some centers will be open from 8 am to 8 pm, and some might be opened on Saturdays and Sundays where previously they were closed.

Opening temporary larger theory test centres in England

We opened 10 temporary larger theory test centers. These 10 temporary centers will create a minimum of 100,000 more appointments each month. The centers will be in: Cambridge, Huddersfield, Leeds (there will be two temporary centers), Docklands (London).

Taking a test at one of these temporary centres

These temporary larger theory test centres work slightly differently to normal test centres. Some sites have up to 25 candidates testing at any given time. Robust Covid-secure measures have ensured the safety of candidates and workers, including: social distancing at least 1 metre away from other people.

There should be protective screens at the entrance of the testing centres. Staff should provide hand sanitiser to candidates upon entering the testing centre. Cleaning workstations should be done before each test. Staff should wear a mask or face coverings if they do not have a medical condition that prevents them from doing so. Candidates should also wear a mask or face covers if they cannot afford to buy one.

Candidates must come into the testing centre alone to help with the social distancing. Pupils should also note that: mobile phones must turn off before entering the test center.

There are no lockers for students' personal belongings. Students will be provided with a rigid plastic box to store their belongings. We will clean these boxes after each student finishes using them. Invigilators will monitor students throughout the testing session. Social distancing guidelines will be strictly enforced.
