The hazard perception test
There are 14 videos in this test. Each video contains at least one developing hazard. But one of them features 2 developing hazards.
Hazard Perception Test - Driver Category 1: You must be able to identify hazards on roads before they become dangerous. Your score depends on your ability to judge road conditions correctly. This means you should be able to spot potential dangers such as potholes or poorly maintained bridges. You may also notice signs indicating when there is an accident ahead.
Hazard Perception Test - Driver Category 2: You must be able predict how hazardous a situation will turn out to be. This means you should know if a car coming towards you is going to slow down or speed up. You may also notice traffic lights changing colour or flashing. You should be able to anticipate any changes in the road ahead and react accordingly.
Drivers must score 50 or more out of 75 points to pass the theory test. Taxi drivers who fail the theory test may take the practical test again. Refunds are not given if you fail the theory test.
What is the theory test pass mark?
The pass mark for the car test is 86% (43/50). To pass the test you must get at least 43 correct answers. You must also pass the hazard perception test. You must score 44 out of 75 points to pass the test.
