Driving tests are offered every weekday. There are weekend tests as well, but you'll pay more. You can book your test online, or call them up. A DVSA assistant is available if you need help.

Book a test online

You need your: UK driving license number. email address. Credit or Debit Card.

Before you start

You must have lived in England for at least 185 days during the last year. Driving tests cost £23. Hazard Perception tests cost £11.

You should be aware that there may be some people who have difficulties when they read. So, please make sure you tell us about any problems you might have. We'll try our best to help you.

When you do not need a theory test

You don't need to take a theory exam before booking a driving test to upgrade your license. An automatic vehicle license to a manual vehicle license. From category A1 (small motorcycles) to category A2(medium motorcycles) if you've had the license for at least two years. From category C1 (medium cars) to category C (Large vehicles) unless you passed a car driving test.

A minibus must tow a trailer. You do NOT need to take a theory exam before booking a minibus.

Book a test to upgrade your licence

You must call the Driver and Vehicles Standards Agency (DVLA) if you want to upgrade your vehicle. Call them on 0300 200 1122 Monday to Friday, 8am - 4pm. Find out about call charges.

When you do not need a theory test

A theory test is required to book a tractor, but not a lorry or trailer. To pass a motorcycle category test, you must have a valid driving license. For a bus and trailer test, you must have an appropriate license.

A medium lorry licence means you can drive a large truck or van. A minibus licence means you can drive smaller vehicles such as vans and buses.
