Ipswich Theory Test Centre Directions

The Ipswich Theory Test Centre was established in 1885. It is located in the second floor of Hubbard House. The main entrance is located along Civic Drive, opposite New Wolsey Theatre. Pressing the intercom on the left-hand side of the main door opens the lift or stairs to the second floor.

Friends and family of Candidates are not allowed to wait inside Hubbard House.

What is the theory test pass mark?

Your car theory test is 86% correct. You must answer 43 out of 50 multiple-choice questions correctly to pass the test. You must also pass the hazard perception test by scoring 44 out of 75 to get your license.

Ipswich theory test centre is roughly a 13 minute walking distance from either Cattle market bus station or Sailmaker bus terminal. Sailmakers bus terminal - Turn left out of bus station onto crown street continue along crown street and across crossroads at bend in road road name changes to st matthews street at roundabout take pedestrian under pass stairs for underpass ramp access turn left-hand corner onto civic drive and ramp is on left-hand side on access to underpass follow sign for norwich road on exit from underpass follow signed for civic drive hubbard house is on right hand side

Cattle market Bus Terminal - Turn left out of bus terminal onto Dogs Head Street, continue across mini roundabout onto Falcons Street. At crossroads continue straight across onto Friars St. Follow road skirting Willis Croon glass buildings) until you reach crossroads. Go straight across onto Civic Drive. Continue following road (skirting Willis coroon glass building), the street changes to Princes Street.At crossroads continue straight across towards Civic Drive. Continue along civic drive and go across roundabout, new wolsey theatre is on right hand side, continue along civic drive 50 metres then take underpass ramp, on access to underpass follow signs to Norwich road. On exit from under pass follow signs for civic drive. Hubbard house is on right hand side"

Train

Ipswich Train Station is located at Burrell Road, Ipswich, IP2 8AL. The nearest test centre is about 25 minutes away by foot. At the pedestrian crossing continue straight ahead onto Princes street. Cross over the road and turn left at the next set of traffic lights. Follow this route until you reach Civic drive. Turn left at the crossroads and continue along Civic drive. You will see the new Wolsey theatre on your right hand side. Continue along Civic drive until you reach the third roundabout. Take the ramp down into the underpass. Exit the underpass and follow the signs for Norwich road. On exiting the underpass, continue along Civic drive. Hubbard house is on the right hand side.

When you do not need a theory test

You must pass a theory test before taking a driving test to upgrade your license. An automatic vehicle license allows you to drive any type of vehicle, but you must be careful when driving a large vehicle.

A minibus can tow a trailer. You don't need to take a theory exam before booking a minibus or bus.

Hazard Perception is a skill that needs practice. It is important to be aware of your surroundings while driving. Road signs are very important when driving. You should know how to read them correctly. Some people may think that they can learn it by reading books or watching videos online, but that is not true. You must practice it until you become an expert driver.

AFTER YOU HAVE BOOKED YOUR TEST

The DVSA will email you confirmation of your theory test upon completion of bookings. It’s very important to provide the correct email address as this will contain your time, date and reference numbers of your test. You should also print out this information and bring it along to your test as it may be useful if you encounter any problems during the test.

ATTENDING THE THEORY TEST

Allow yourself plenty of time to get to Ipswich Theory Test Center. All theory test centers operate strict allotted test times for each candidate, arriving late may see you unable take the test and you'll lose the booking fee. You need to bring your provisional driving license photocard with you to Ipswich theory test center on the day of your exam.
