Car

There is a parking facility on New Holder Street, but it costs £2 per hour. It is within 2 minute walk.

Bus

The Central bus station is located 0.3 miles from Test Centre 2.

Train

The train station is about a 15-minute walk from the test centre. The test centre is located on the ground floor of Bolton Technology Exchange.

You need your: UK driving license number. email address. Credit or Debit Card.

Before you start

You must have lived in England for at least 185 days during the last year before taking your theory or driving test, and you must have been in a car or motorbike for at least 185 days as well. For lorries and buses, you need to be in them for 185 days, but you also need to pass the hazard perception test.

When you do not need a theory test

You must pass a theory test before booking a driving test. An automatic vehicle licence is required to drive a medium-sized motorcycle. To drive a large vehicle, you must first pass a driving test.

From minibus to bus. Any license to tow a trailer. You don't need to take a theory exam before booking a minivan.

Arriving at Bolton Theory Test Centre

Public transport is very convenient. There are many different ways to get there. You can take a bus or a train. You can also use a taxi. And you can even walk there.

You can plan your route by tapping BL1 4AY into the Sat Nav. Driving from outside of town, you may end up on the M6 or M62. Follow signs to St Peter's Way/ A66, then onto Spa Road. Eventually turn into Queensbrook.

Parking unfortunately, Bolton theory test centre doesn't provide on-site parking, thankfully, there are a couple reasonable priced options nearby. New holder street car park (bl1 4sn) charges £2 for two hours and is a short four minute walk to the centre. alternatively, you could also use st edmund street car park (bl1 2jr), which is eight minutes away but fifty pence cheaper charging £1.5 for two hours.

ONCE YOU HAVE BOOKED YOUR TEST

When you complete the booking process of your test, the DVSA sends you an email confirming the date and time of your test. You should print this out and bring it with you to the centre.

ATTENDING YOUR THEORY TEST

You must bring your provisional driving license (the plastic card) to the test centre. Your provisional driving license should be valid for 3 months after the date of the test. You should also bring your full driving licence if you wish to drive during the test.

I found this test centre very easy to find. There were plenty of parking spaces available. The staff were friendly and helpful. The test centre had enough space for me to take my time and relax. I was given a seat and waited patiently until it was my turn. I passed!
